Birmingham Shelter offer a wide range of help and advice on all housing and homelessness issues. There is a team of advisers and solicitors who may be able to help families with their problem – and if they can’t help, they work with other agencies who can. They have computers and telephones that parents/carers can use to access the internet for advice, claim benefits, or bid on properties. This internet link signposts to other sources of housing support and accommodation, based on needs that are presented and the situation people may find themselves in (for example Domestic Abuse, ex-offenders, homeless families etc) The Gateway is open between Monday to Thursday 8:45am to 5:15pm, and Friday 8:45am to 4:15pm. Family Action is a national charity, with a local focus. Whilst the Head Office is based in North London, services are delivered from local offices across the country. Contact 020 7254 6251 for further information. - The No Recourse to Public Funds team is part of service known as The Link, providing assessments, information and signposting to support for vulnerable people unable to access statutory services including welfare benefits, housing support and adult social care support due to their immigration status. In appropriate cases the team may provide support that is not otherwise available to those who are in need of care and attention. The assessment the team offer, under the National Assistance Act (Section 21 1 (A) 1948), will advise if a person is eligible for a community care assessment and support services from Adults and Communities.
